Step for Cleaning

  • Take a microwave-safe bowl. Fill it with half a cup of water and mix a tablespoon of white vinegar in it. As you are going to need a large bowl, you may use a 2-cup measuring bowl to avoid spilling of the liquid.
  • Place the bowl in the microwave and heat it on full power for about five minutes. Turn off the microwave and leave the bowl inside for 10-15 minutes.
  • The steam shall help loosen the dirt and food particle baked into the walls. Furthermore, the vinegar shall absorb the smells, even the smell of burnt food. Do not let it steam for too long though as it may not be safe.
  • Next, carefully remove the hot bowl.
  • Clean of the microwave with a damp paper towel or a piece of soft cloth (preferably microfiber cloth). Wipe the sides and the top to remove gunk. Plus, do not forget to clean the inside of the door.
  • To clean the glass plate, remove it from the turntable and wash it in the sink with hot soapy water and sponge. Wash the turntable support/rolling ring, too.
  • Finally, moisten a clean rag or cloth and wipe down the exterior of your microwave to keep it gleaming.

  • Deal with spills and stains immediately.
  • To remove foul odors from the microwave, heat a mixture of one cup of water and a quarter cup of lemon juice in the microwave for about two to three minutes. Then, turn off the microwave and let it sit for about half an hour. It shall remove the odors and leave your microwave smelling fresh. Alternatively, you can simply cut a lemon in two halves, place it on a microwave safe plate along with a tablespoon of water.
  • Try to keep your food covered while cooking; less splutters would require lesser cleaning.
